I have diabetes -- why should I see a nutritionist?
Like it or not, nutrition therapy is an essential part of diabetes management. In fact, some people are able to manage their diabetes through diet alone. Good nutrition knowledge is actually a very powerful tool for the person with diabetes whether they have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Many people with diabetes are frightened about the prospect of meeting with a nutritionist. They are worried (needlessly -- it usually turns out!) that they will be told to give up all their favorite foods forever; that they will never be able to eat out in a restaurant again; and that they will have to eat "prisoners' rations" instead of "real" food. No wonder they're scared!

The good news is that these fears are unfounded. We've discovered that people are amazed by one of our guiding principles -- any food can fit. Gone are the days of the preprinted, 1800-calorie diet. Today the primary goal of nutrition therapy is to integrate people's food preferences as well as their overall lifestyles into their meal plans.
