The beauty of counting carbohydrates (as most kids do who have Type 1 diabetes) is that it gives you a general guideline of how many carbs you can eat for each meal plus snacks. Since not everybody likes the same foods, a plan can be tailored and adjusted as your food preferences or situation demands. For example, if you know you should have about 60 grams of carbohydrate for dinner, you could have either a cup of rice with dinner plus a small roll or you could have a large slice of pizza if you're out with friends. As you can see, as long as you follow your carbohydrate guidelines, the food options are endless. Of course, you will always need to watch portions but so should everybody else!
