We are delighted to welcome Srilaxmi Bearelly, MD, MHS, to the Berrie Center, where she will join Daniel Casper, MD, PhD, in providing the ophthalmic care that is vital to the well-being of people with diabetes. Dr. Bearelly, an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia, (and the retinologist to whom Dr. Casper refers most patients needing treatment) has been at Columbia since 2010.
Prior to working at Columbia, Dr. Bearelly served as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology on the Retina Service at Duke University since 2004. She trained at both Northwestern and Duke Universities, and said Dr. Casper, “in addition to being an excellent clinician, she is also an esteemed research scientist who has performed innovative investigations on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and the effects of pregnancy on the retina.”
As of October, Dr. Bearelly is available on Thursday mornings to see both new and established patients, as well as emergencies. “She will undoubtedly be a great asset to the Berrie Center, her expertise adding immeasurably to the specialized care we deliver together,” added Dr. Casper.
