Oral Insulin in Prevention of Type 1 Diabetes in Relatives of People with Type 1 Diabetes

Drs. Robin Goland and Mary Pat Gallagher

Purpose of Study
Randomized, controlled trial an oral formulation of insulin in relatives of people with type 1 diabetes. Subjects have normal glucose tolerance and autoantibodies against insulin and islet cells demonstrating higher risk for development of type 1 diabetes.

Who is Eligible for This Study?

Age: Between 3 and 45 years old.

Type of Diabetes: Non-diabetic relatives of people with type 1 diabetes

Time Commitment
Study visits take place over a 2 year period.

Reimbursement
Patients receive diabetes medications and glucose testing supplies at no cost during the study. Participants will have the opportunity to continue taking inhaled insulin.
