The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) Study

Purpose of Study
To follow infants from the age of three months to 15 years of age in order to identify infectious agents, dietary factors, or other environmental agents, including psychosocial factors which trigger T1DM in genetically susceptible individuals or which protect against the disease. Identification of such factors will lead to a better understanding of disease pathogenesis and result in new strategies to prevent, delay or reverse T1DM.

Who is Eligible for This Study?

Age: Newborns under the age of three months

Type of Diabetes: Non-diabetic infants of first-degree relatives with type 1 diabetes (Mother, Father, Full-Sibling).

Time Commitment
Phase 1 Screening: 3 months            

Phase 2 Follow-up Study: 15 years*

*enrollment based upon genetic eligibility from screening phase

Reimbursement
There will be no reimbursement for the screening phase. However, $20 dollars will be given to help cover travel expenses every time we see your baby for a TEDDY visit in the follow-up study.
