Research

The scientists of the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center are passionate about finding answers to questions that can conquer diabetes. What are the underlying causes? How can it be prevented, better controlled, or cured? Our core faculty leads teams of scientists who are investigating several research areas, such as making intestinal cells into insulin factories, understanding the autoimmune nature of diabetes, exploring stem cells, and explaining how weight gain can lead to diabetes and its complications.

The teams who carry out science at the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center are world experts in the many different facets of biology that contribute to all forms of diabetes. The Berrie Center brings scientists together to share ideas, approaches, and education. We also train the next generation of researchers to continue the crusade against diabetes.

Ultimately, it is our patients who drive our research. The Berrie Center has created a unique setting where patient care and research happen side-by-side. Working together, clinicians, translational scientists, and basic scientists bring the latest care, trials, and science to Berrie Center patients.
